okay but also it took jack MONTHS to realize he was in love with bitty because jack is an oblivious idiot.
when jack was with kent, he was dealing with so much and struggling and has probably blocked a lot of it out. he probably associates kent with that time of his life, hence him looking annoyed as hell when kent said he missed him.
maybe jack did have feelings for him. confused, heartbreaking feelings that he couldn’t make sense of at the time because of his anxiety and depression but also because he can be a little dense
when he said it was just physical, maybe that wasn’t true. but maybe it wasn’t denial for bitty’s sake, but because jack himself actually believes that. and jack continues to associate kent with that period of his life so he just associates kent with being bad for him
